Average customer review:Product Description
Simon Phillips has recorded and performed with an incredible array of bands and artists. A partial list includes The Who, Mick Jagger, Tears for Fears, Toto, Roxy Music, Jeff Beck, Pete Townsend, Robert Palmer, and Stanley Clarke. He has a dazzling command of the drumset and has certainly established himself as one of the leading drummers in modern music. For the first time on DVD, and remixed (by Simon himself!) in Dolby 5.1 surround, Simon Phillips: Complete includes Simon s groundbreaking videos Simon Phillips and Simon Phillips Returns on one disc. This DVD combines brilliant trio performances with concise and informative instructional segments. Simon demonstrates the drum patterns played in each song, first slowly and then up to speed, and covers topics such as double bass drums, bass and snare drum tuning, hand/foot independence exercises, practice techniques, timekeeping, odd-meters, and playing with a click. In addition, he performs two incredible free form drum solos which incorporate the fiery technique and ambidexterity that he has become known for. Also included is brand new footage of Simon in the studio, explaining the concepts behind 5.1 surround and his own mixing process.

Customer Reviews
Fantastic Simon Primer!
This DVD is the complete set of what had previously been 2 separate vhs tapes. Simon's playing is, of course, incredible. For any drummer interested in Simon's playing this is a must. There are some advanced concepts here, but Simon is extremely good at explaing what is going on in simple language. For those who are more musically literate there were two instruction books based on the videos. The video can be seen as a progression from simpler (well simple for Simon) material to more advanced. Something like 'Cosmos' can be approached at a much easier level than say 'Force Majeure.' The section on Odd Time is great, and if you buy the instructional books, there are play-alongs to all of the material. Also, in terms of sheer performance Simon is always so exciting to watch that even if you don't play drums near that level, you will love the 'Concert' footage.
Simmon Phillips at his best!!!
If you have not seen Simmon Phillips play, this is the DVD to see!
